CHRISTIAN CHARETTE'S ON PLYMOUTH CITY COMMISION'S ANTI-BUSINESS POLICY CONSIDERATIONS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 26, 2023 — Today it was reported that Plymouth's City Commission is preparing to consider what can only be described as blatantly anti-business policies aimed at local restaurants with outdoor seating in the Downtown area. These policies include:
-
Increasing the city patio rate from $1.50/square foot to $15.00/square foot;
-
Forcing business owners who paid tens of thousands of dollars on personalized outdoor patios
to downsize, etc...
I have made my stance clear from the very start of my campaign; SMB's (small & medium sized businesses) are essential to our economy, to our communities, and to our workers. — What the Plymouth City Commission plans to consider this August is not only unreasonable, it is WRONG.
Downtown Plymouth is a unique anomaly in the Metro-Detroit area... one might even say in the Country. It delivers the authentic 'small-town' experience right into our own backyard and remains a local treasure enjoyed by hundreds of residents every day. We must never forget that an indisputable part of that experience is thanks to the close-knit community of small businesses that call the Downtown area home.
I proudly stand with the Plymouth business community.
